AN EXTRA fence is to be placed along the edge of a quarry on the Malvern Hills to make sure cattle grazing the area do not fall over the edge.
Malvern Hills Conservators had been recommended by conservation officer Rob Harvard to move the fence along the ridge of Black Hill, Little Malvern, further down the slope and place it along the edge of the quarry.
He told members of the land management committee that while the sheep grazing that section of the hills were content to stay close to the fence currently on the ridge, cattle wandered further away and were at risk of falling over the edge of the quarry.
However the committee decided that moving the fence closer to the quarry edge could present a danger to people and particularly children.
They decided the fence currently on the ridge should remain and a second fence should be placed near the edge of the quarry allowing animals to graze a strip of land without being in danger of falling over the edge of the quarry.
The Conservators hope to erect the new fence this autumn.
