MALVERN Youth Centre’s new concert café opened with music, bike stunts and the opportunity to Youth worker Jon White said: “It was a fabulous day. We had three bands playing acoustic sets as well as a special guest appearance from Dan Sealey from Ocean Colour Scene.”
While music filled the air inside, mountain bike rider Tim Stedman entertained those present with a display of his dexterous bike stunts at the front of the Albert Road North centre.
The cafe, newly refurbished by the young people themselves, will offer opportunities for volunteer work and the chance to brighten up the curriculum vitae with some hands-on experience.
Mr White said: “We will be selling very basic foods like toasted sandwiches, as well as tea, coffee and smoothies.
“It will be cheap and designed specifically for a 12 to 21-year-old age group.”
Volunteers have been quick to step forward to work in the cafe and Mr White is now looking for local bands to take part in gigs at the centre.
Mr White thanked the assistance of companies such as Co-operative Supermarket, Spartan Clothing and AMB Glass who provided free or discounted products for the centre.
The centre, in Albert Road North, will be open every Saturday between 3pm and 6pm, and also on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Mr White can be contacted on 01684 575363 or by email at jwhite@worcestershire.gov.uk.
