ROCK star Dan Sealy, from the band Ocean Colour Scene, will open a newly-refurbished music cafe at the Malvern Youth Centre.
The bass player will be at the Albert Road North-based venue at 2pm on Saturday (August 30).
The opening day will also see performances by local young artists in Malvern. These include Shrukme, a band called Guests and Ashling Trafford, a solo singer. In addition local pro bikerider, Tim Stedman, will be on hand for a bike demonstration.
The centre is owned by Worcestershire County Council.
Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: “This is a great example of young people working towards a goal that will give them a platform to display their talents. Everyone involved with the project has been busy refurbishing the café so that young talent is given the opportunity to perform to a live audience.”
Every week there will be acoustic acts entertaining the young customers aged from 14 to 21. Once a month there will a larger-scale gig performed in the theatres. The first of these will be solo artist, Sam Isaac, Slashed Seat Affair and Cathode Ray Catastrophe. This will be taking place on Saturday, October 25.
The café will also be hosting comedy sketches and drama performances happening on Wednesday evenings.
