AS the government fuels our panic buying of petrol, it is worth noting that the biggest beneficiary will be the Treasury, which collects approximately 60 pence for every £1 spent on the forecourt.
If we do not wish any longer to be held to ransom by oil companies charging more for a dwindling resource and a government desperate to claw back revenue by whatever means, it is time to adopt a more intelligent approach, by investing properly in community transport options on our roads and renewable energy for our homes and workplaces.
