RE. the article on further development of Sling Lane Fields (Feb 3); it should be noted that the narrative supplied, with the all-too-briefly issued consultation document, stated that access/egress to and from the fields would be by means of two gates that would only be open during supervised football activities.
It did not contain any indication as to how informal users of the fields would gain access, ie no pedestrian access shown or mentioned in narrative.
In the covering statement on the website it was stated that the council’s intention was to improve the fields for formal and informal recreational users but the proposal seems only to cater for the formal use.
The head of the Customer and Environmental Services Ivor Pumfrey was reported as claiming that the fences shown in the consultation documents were already in place. Either he has been badly advised or is seeking to create an erroneous impression of the current state of these fields.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet him on these fields and help them to get a better appreciation of the current situation and errors within the proposal drawings.
