Thought for the Week

"ALWAYS Look on the Bright Side of Life”. The song, from Monty Python’s film Life of Brian, appeals to our stoicism and has proved enduringly popular. Although neither the film nor the song is Christian in sentiment, the title contains a truth that Christians affirm. Negative thoughts tend to negative consequences while positive thoughts are helpful.

Solomon wrote “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Later St. Paul advised us to think on whatever is right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. As we reflect on these things, we reflect on God who made them. Hope rises and faith is strengthened. God, who is all light, encourages positive thinking but knew that it could not restore us to Him and make us truly happy. Only He could do that and so Jesus came, died for us and rose again proving that “with God, all things are possible”.
