IN less than a month, both my Child Benefit details and now my daughter's provisional driving licence data have been lost or at best mislaid by this government.
Any misgivings I had about ID cards have now been confirmed as we sleepwalk towards the data-base society. An ID card is not just another piece of plastic, it is part of the government's scheme to centralise every citizen's data which, until now, has always been kept separately. It will be intrusive, expensive (£6 billion at the latest count) and will not stop fraud or terrorism. On the contrary, identity theft will be more lucrative and any error will be our responsibility.
If you too are worried I urge you to write to your MP or better still log onto www.NO2ID.net and become a member of this non-partisan group.
