I HEARTILY agree with the sentiments expressed by John Kirton in last week's Malvern Gazette.
In my area, Court Road, the increase in the number of dwellings built, in the process and outline planning approved over the last couple of years are to my knowledge 46. Considering the number of houses previously existing, according to the house numbering system, was 51, approximately one third more!
Now on top of that Malvern College, with I must admit, admirable plans are seeking planning permission for a new sports development on their existing ground. The proposed access to this is using the footpath/bridleway opposite the former Fountain Inn on Court Road, this to be improved and street lighting included. The site to provide parking for 60 cars and some coaches. Add these vehicles to those approximate 50 vehicles from the adjacent 28 proposed dwellings and the existing vehicles.
Court Road and Barnards Green are already struggling to cope, how can it cope with the extra? This is not NIMBYism. Has anyone thought of the implications?
As an old Malvernian of 71 years I'm not against progress but I watch all this with dismay seeing what results it will bring.
On my own doorstep, I've lived at the top of this footpath/bridleway for over 23 years, I find my proposed parking slot sited across my own gate. There's more yet, it seems likely to end up in a zone between the proposed traffic lights which will make it entirely useless. There seems to be something wrong with the planning in this situation, or am I prejudiced.
JO GUEST, Court Road, Malvern.
