I AM writing to object strongly to the planning application for the building of 33 residential units on the Old Station Yard off Peachfield Road.
This site does not lend itself to building residential houses, The shape of the site being very narrow and the proximity to neighbouring houses and railway line makes it very unsuitable. My house backs onto this proposed development and I am quite close enough to the railway line. Who would want to live right next to it, the noise and vibration will be intolerable? Certainly elderly folk won't and it won't be suitable for people with young children, with the noise and not enough space to play. They will end up crossing Peachfield Road to the common.
There will not be enough car parking spaces, no areas for children to play. The access onto Peachfield Road, extremely near to the railway bridge, makes it a very dangerous junction. The footpath on the bridge being only on one side and that is the side of the common, therefore all pedestrians would need to cross over at some point.
I know a lot of research has been done about the terrible drainage problems on Fruitlands but this can only add to the severe problems a lot of my neighbours on Fruitlands and residents in the houses below the railway line are already experiencing. With the recent floods this area has had this year, to build more houses in this position is asking for trouble.
I see the developers, in the latest plans for the far end of the site have introduced a four storey feature tower. How unnecessary is this? All it does is overshadow the residents already here in Fruitlands. We live in a lovely area with views across the valley to Bredon Hill. To have the views and sunlight removed by three and four storey buildings on this piece of land would be terrible.
This is a totally inappropriate piece of land for this proposal. I hope the councillors of Malvern HIlls District Council listen to their local community and respect our views.
