Hurried up by Mr Shaw

AS the grandson of the lady who opened Malvern's new Post Office (about 1930), I do hope it will continue as a Post Office and not be replaced by back-of-the-stationery-shop as has happened in so many towns.

In the 1930s Malvern, like many towns of similar size, took great pride in its Post Office.

The lady who did the opening was Mrs William Sayers, wife of the chairman of Malvern Urban District Council. Incidentally I was working on the Malvern Gazette in 1937 when it was owned by M T Stevens and the paper was printed on a flat-bed printing machine on lease from a Mr Noah of The Ark! As a claim to fame I was addressed by Bernard Shaw when he was attending the 1927 Malvern Festival. "Hurry up, young man," said Mr Shaw as I was taking his photograph for the Malvern Gazette.
