Effects felt long term

With reference to the comments made by Stephen Crisp, of Shaw Healthcare, (Ledbury Reporter, September 7) about the future of the elderly residents at Leadon Bank Residential Home, a number of people in 2004/05 formed a group to the campaign against the new development.

Not only did we object to the new blot on the landscape, but also the level of care Shaw Healthcare would be providing on the completion of the scheme for the residents of Leadon Bank. Only the minority wanted to listen and turned out to the vote in the referendum.

The county councillors of 2005 representing the town of Ledbury knew the consequences of the outcome of this situation, but still insisted on backing this ludicrous scheme, eventually voting for the plans to be passed.

I am now positive most people will be aware that the outcome of the so-called assessments of the now residents of Leadon Bank will not only affect the elderly of today, but the elderly of tomorrow too. Where will Ledbury people like myself end our final years. Perhaps for me and many others not in our native town, but some place else with unfamiliar surroundings.

PAULINE POWELL, Orchard Place, Ledbury.
