YES, well done the banner designers, the banner fixers, and all those campaigning to keep the county Outdoor Education Service intact and properly funded.
I can confirm the wording on the posters as those reported in last weeks's Malvern Gazette: "Don't betray our children"; "Active lifestyles. O Ed needs to be expanded, not closed down"; "Our flagship centre, Llanrug, must not be closed"; and "The height of stupidity".
May I, ask The Rev. Peter Furber just what it is that he regards as "misguided"? Does he mean the business of campaigning? The sentiments expressed in the wording of the banners? Surely he doesn't mean that no response should be forthcoming when the cabinet of Worcestershire County Council fly in the face of all informed advice and vote to close their keystone centre.
It would be very helpful and a good thing to have a clear expression of support from the church, indeed, from all churches. To use the current jargon outdoor education "ticks many boxes" which I feel sure the church would want to endorse. If that is the case, isn't a scaffold on a church a wholly appropriate place to display these banners - even if they did last only one day?
