YOUR headline about Colwall railway bridge closure underlines two important points.
Firstly, closing this tottering bridge even to pedestrian schoolkids makes me wonder how the bridge got into such a parlous state in the first place with all the inspectors on the railways and highways.
Surely it should be possible to put barriers up to stop vehicles using the road yet allow children to cross to school or is that too much to expect?
On another highway related subject, there has been persistent neglect of road drainage by the powers that be, possibly to encourage local water features which may be attracting Arts Council grants. Near my house, the Queenhill loop was closed because some gullies had been tarmacked over or covered with grass which led to a two foot deep water feature which lasted for about a week after flooding Friday.
