10:27am Friday 3rd August 2007 in Letters
LAST Friday, on my way home from Redditch, I found myself caught and stranded in Malvern due to the flooding.
When I realised that I could not get home I phoned my husband from the British Camp car park and, sensing my distress, he phoned through to the Malvern Hills Hotel to tell the receptionist that I was outside in my car. She immediately came out to me in the pouring rain and encouraged me to come inside. I was able to order a meal, which was delicious, and another receptionist put my name on a waiting list for a room for the night. I was extremely lucky that I was able to secure a room and have a good night's sleep.
The staff at the hotel worked tirelessly late into the evening and were up very early the next day, they were extremely helpful, compassionate and kindness itself. I finally got home on Saturday lunch time much to my family's huge relief and my own.
My heart goes out to all the unfortunate people who were not as lucky as me on that awful evening and who, even now, are still trying to get some semblance of normality into their lives.
I am sure there are many stories of the floods but I am hoping that you will publish my letter to express my deep gratitude for all that the Malvern Hills Hotel staff did for me and all the other stranded people that night. Their professionalism was exemplary and they really out to have the recognition they deserve for their fantastic response to such a dire situation.
