AS you reported in the Ledbury Reporter last week, on Ledbury in Bloom, the Judges are happy with return visit'.
Everywhere they went, they met smiling people old and young, and saw some fine displays in Queen's Walk, the Walled Garden, the station, and countless tubs, troughs and other beds. The profusion of flowers in the hanging baskets along the main streets were particularly noticeable.
This was due to the hard work of many volunteers in the town, and from the schools, the youth centre, and businesses.
The judges enjoyed what may have been their first visit to the beautifully kept gardens at the back of St. Katharine's almshouses. The Herefordshire Parks department, its contractors, and the Ledbury Town Council and its staff have also played their part keeping the town tidy, in a difficult summer.
On behalf of the In Bloom committee, I want to thank the people of Ledbury for their support, and the way in which many cooperate by displaying flowers and keeping the town relatively litter-free. Awards are still to be announced for the excellent entries in the Ledbury in Bloom Gardens competition.
The theme of Butterflies in our gardens is beginning to catch on, and this combines interest in plants, as well as conservation, and wildlife concerns.
I hope that we can have some prolonged sunshine for the butterflies to visit us again this year, and in 2008!.
John Grove, chairman, Ledbury in Bloom, Preston Brook Close, Ledbury.
