I REFER to the story (April 3) Is this justice? where a young biker, Robbie Ballinger was in collision with a car driven by a driver who had pulled out of a side turning in front of him.

Mr Ballinger suffered multiple injuries and is still recovering.

The driver, who was above the legal limit for alcohol, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention.

She was fined £200, disqualified from driving for 20 months, and her licence was endorsed.

I was surprised there were no letters in last week's Gazette, as I'm sure there are many readers who were sympathetic to Mr Ballinger's position.

So, was justice done? Not in my view.

The law was applied, but that is different altogether.

Poor Mr Ballinger is left to pick up the pieces as best he can.

We read of so many cases like this where the victim is entirely overlooked, and has to spend time resorting to other measures to get justice.

Mr Ballinger, go see a solicitor.

In the meantime, if you like to contact me via this newspaper, I will send you a cheque for £50.

It's a start.
