I WROTE to this newspaper several years ago when the Master’s House, Ledbury, had been left empty and its future was uncertain.
I said at the time that we are blessed with a rich history around us and that sometimes it is best to start afresh i.e. knock it down.
Having visited the newly renovated Master’s House last weekend I would like to eat a large slice of humble pie.
I was so wrong. The renovated Master’s House is a wonderful triumph and it is a building that the whole town can be proud of.
An army of volunteers has helped to create the experience that now exists but I think that praise must be given to the architects, builders and craftsmen at Speller Metcalfe and Herefordshire Council.
I recognise that there was funding from elsewhere too.
At a time when arts funding is being severely cut, it is a real accolade to the council that they pursued the Master’s House project and didn’t pull out half way through.
Thank you to all those who made the Master’s House come alive again.
