THE plan by CALA homes to build 46 houses in Malvern Wells on greenfield land, all of which is in the area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), is not a sustainable plan.

If passed this development will detract from beauty of the views from the hills and towards the hills, not just for local people but for the large number of tourists who are drawn to Malvern.

They come for its peace, its Englishness, its sense of space and contact with nature.

Contact with nature, exercise, natural exposure to sunlight, and open space are all now recognised as being beneficial not just for physical, but also spiritual and mental health.

We, the residents of Malvern, have the benefit of an inheritance from the far-sighted people who established the Malvern Hills Conservators and established the small Malvern Hills District Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Is our generation's legacy one that will begin to destroy all that makes Malvern special?

Houses can be built elsewhere, the integrity of the AONB cannot be recreated once damaged.
