ON Sunday at 8.30am my front doorbell rang.

A lady with a small dog had noticed that there was a broken glass bottle in the driveway of the blind gentleman who lives opposite me.

She asked if she could borrow a broom to sweep the glass to one side as she was concerned that, should the man come out, his guide dog's paws would be cut.

How good to know there are such kind and thoughtful people around, who don't just notice but do something about it.

It makes up for the thoughtless idiots who threw the bottle in the first place!

If not the dog, it could have been children, or tyres,
