I AM getting increasingly annoyed by the letters of those who argue that the proposed cable car would benefit local business and rescue the town from decline.

Almost with the same breath they peddle the line that the cable car would benefit many elderly and disabled people.

I wonder to what extent these people shop in Great Malvern, beyond a trip to Waitrose, and whether they give any thought to how the elderly and disabled can access the town and its shops.

For a town with such a large proportion of senior citizens, its pavements and pedestrian crossings are a disgrace.

The only pedestrian crossing for over a mile along the Worcester Road has no kerb drops and there are virtually no kerb drops along the entire length of Worcester Road from Link Top to Belle Vue Terrace. How does one access Belle Vue Terrace when in a wheelchair or mobility scooter? By road.

If people writing in support of the cable car really care about the decline of the town centre and about the lives of the elderly and disabled they should invest more time and energy into campaigning for improved pavements and pedestrian crossings in the town, for the benefit of those with impaired mobility.
