I HAVE had to wait two weeks to allow my anger to subside at the sheer arrogance of the Conservators closing comment following their completely biased debate on the proposed Malvern Hills cable car - they said "that they would not entertain any further approaches on the subject." All 21 of them are supposed to represent the views of the good people of Malvern who elected them to their positions. It's quite obvious that they did not seek opinions from we the general populace where a straw poll indicates that 80% of the citizens are completely in favour of this well conceived proposal.

I have lived here for decades and raised my family here and no one could have a greater appreciation for our beautiful hills than myself. I am also a keen supporter of SSSIs and AONBs, being keen to ensure that they stay beautiful for all of us. I am also acutely conscious of the town's need to continue to market itself for the next generation of tourists.

MHC insults the intelligence of Malvern's population by hiding behind several Acts of Parliament of their own making and they know full well that if they really wanted to allow this very limited development, it could be done. One comment is about where would all the extra cars park - well obviously in the long stay car park behind the Splash which brings a huge benefit to the town because all the cable car riders would have to walk through our Winter Gardens and theatre and then be exposed to all our traders in Church Street who would dearly love to have the extra business. And another negative comment about blasting on the hills to rebuild the café is sheer nonsense. Obviously there will be some disruption during the building phase but nature will soon recover and adjust.

Elgar's Malvern deserves a cable car, it deserves to have the café rebuilt for all the hill users to benefit from. Perhaps we need to dismiss all 21 of the Conservators (and replace them with people who reflect the views of the electors rather politicians who sing to their leader's hymn sheet) if they are not prepared to listen to what Malvern wants and find a way to accommodate their wishes without detracting from the beauty and tranquility of our very special Malvern Hills. Be assured that regardless of their current dictatorial attitude, there will be a cable car and a café on the Malverns in the future - I would just love it to come in my lifetime.
