SO our Malvern Hills district councillors who do not have farmland to destroy for transient gain have hit on the 'superb' idea of selling the Malvern Hills, presumably for substantial backhanders.

Once the novelty has worn off for those who advocate the cable car/restaurant scheme the white elephant will remain as much an ugly eyesore on our landscape as the urban housing developments in our rural areas.

Malvern Hills District Council would do well to accept, for economic and environmental reasons, the wisdom of those who advocate motorised and/or chauffeured buggies to the top of Worcestershire Beacon.

If needs must, a modest and sensitively designed restoration of the one-time cafe (with toilets) is all that might be required.

However, for real walkers enjoying the countryside while young and fit enough to do so (even though others have to recollect the experience when they no longer can) a day 'on the top of the world' does not require the facilities of the lower regions.

Why should we pay taxes for those we elect to serve us by providing our basic essential environmental and social needs for them to line their pockets?
