COUNCILLOR Bronwen Behan, Malvern Hills District Council portfolio holder for environmental control, tells us that their garden waste collection service “is literally growing by the week”.
We should congratulate Councillor Behan that such a beneficial environmental service is so popular, proving that the way to business success is to charge more than anyone else for the service.
Birmingham City, not, of course, the brightest example of municipal accountancy, charges a mere £35 for collecting garden waste; Gloucester £36; Wychavon £43; Tewkesbury £39.50; Worcester £52; but charging twice as much as Birmingham, Malvern weighs in with an outstanding £70.
Now we know where the money comes from to pay for councillors’ rise in allowances!
