I HAVE recently learned of the proposal to build a cable car on the Malvern Hills.

I live in London and regularly visit the area and enjoy the hills' beauty and unspoilt nature.

I understand that one of the reasons given for this proposal is to increase disabled access.

Speaking as someone who has had one hip replaced and is currently on the waiting list for the other, I still enjoy the challenge of the walk up to the Beacon, and would never dream of using a cable car.

The whole point of the climb is the challenge and the sense of achievement when I get there.

If this proposal goes ahead, I would be deterred from visiting the Hills and the consortium behind this scheme needs to consider the negative knock on effect on the tourism trade.

Another concern relates to the state of the nation's health and the fact that obesity is increasing.

As a healthcare professional, I would like to see more people exercising and the cable car would discourage this.

I would urge everyone to consider these arguments and please do not desecrate these pristine, unspoilt hills, which are a national asset.
