WE know from the emerging South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) that the Malvern Hills area will have to provide up to 8,590 additional dwellings between now and 2030.

We also know that Malvern Hills District Council does not presently have a robust five-year land supply, thereby encouraging development under paragraphs. 14 and 49 of the National Planning Policy Framework.

The five-year land supply, when available, will protect against development except where designated in the SWDP, but without the five-year land supply the SWDP remains vulnerable to developers.

The principle way the five-year supply can be achieved is by the approval of planning applications that come forward.

As almost every development proposed is strongly objected to by local groups, the more successful these groups are in denying planning, the greater is the likelihood that a five-year land supply protection cannot be achieved for some considerable rime.

We may live in interesting times, but be careful what you wish for!
