THERE seems to be increasing concern about what is going on behind closed doors in local government.

I have no doubt about the hardworking activities of most councillors but throughout the world, and history, the activities of the leading administrators and rulers occasionally need looking at.

For instance, I have tried to understand the job descriptions advertised in the press. Phrases like "multi-level diversity coordination" are used. What does that mean?

Perhaps it is time for the new councillors to find out and tell us, and give us organisation charts with job descriptions in English with pay levels.

How is it that what has been called a tinpot council can pay nearly as much as the prime minister?
