Parents should keep children under control

I WOULD like to express concern that section 161 of the Highways Act is not being implemented within Malvern.

This Act was made to stop obstruction of the roads and the safety of children who should be under parental control but are not in some cases.

Footballs cause many issues to others, such as breaking plants off at cost to properties, damage to cars – more so if you have a new one parked which should be free from being smacked.

The law states that it is an offence to play or kick balls on the highway, but the police seem to turn a blind eye, which leads to things getting out of control, as many things have.

I am sure the police have got better things to do than protect a few flowers from some kids playing in the street. I get the odd football kicked against my car from time to time, but so what, its only a car and because I speak to my neighbours and know them I am sure I would be able to approach them if there was any damage rather than have a huff in the local paper.

There are no police to turn a blind eye. When I was a wee lad I used to kick a ball around in the street. I had no idea until I read this letter that to do so is an offence. It just shows, one learns something every day!
