HAS anybody in authority actually thought about the consequences of stopping swimming at the Gullet Quarry?
Now when we have a hot spell all of the swimmers who used to swim at the quarry in relative safety will now probably head for the river Severn to cool off, which is far more dangerous and would cost more lives.
Instead of closing the quarry why not employ some lifeguards, open up a restaurant and bar area and perhaps syphon off some of the water for a children's pool. Charge a reasonable entrance fee and have a closed season for swimming from October to May.
The bar could still open and, guess what, they might make a decent profit; everybody's happy and people won't have to swim in the river.
