THE Gazette reported on the terminated contracts of three care homes (May 23).
I beg to say that the care staff of the Old Vicarage care home were far from neglectful of the residents' welfare, in case any such impression might be left by the article.
On the contrary, the staff were doing a wonderful job in keeping the residents properly looked after under increasing difficulties outside their control, and as soon as the scale of the heating crisis became apparent they took action so that the residents were all re-housed and in the warm by that night.
Moreover, the protest they later staged was not against the closure but concerned the unresolved situation in which they had personally been landed.
As a neighbour I have a high respect for the dignity with which they conducted themselves.
