Have we lost our national pride?

HAVE we lost our sense of national pride?

Shopping in Ledbury High Street on April 23, I saw no sign of a St George's Day flag, window dressing or anything, in fact, which signified our patron saint and national day! Worse still, the only place I was able to purchase items for a display in our local community shop was by post from Amazon as there was simply nothing to be seen in Ledbury shops where I buy most of my goods in order to give local support.

The Welsh, Scots and Irish all make a huge display of celebrating by wearing national costume, parades, bunting and promoting their historic identity, and it saddens me to realise that our much-vaunted town hasn't bothered.

Is this down to apathy or some kind of misguided political correctness?

What is racist about being proud of being a citizen of a country where you are accepted *regardless of your colour, creed or sexuality*?

Hmm, maybe Nathan was joking?

'Political correctness' is mostly a myth concocted by the nasty right wing of politics. It certainly wouldn't play a part in the absence of bunting in a small country town like this.

I thought the smiley face gave it away but maybe it was misinterpreted as a representation of a police officer holding a riot shield at a BNP demo.
