Is Ledbury resilient?

It is right to be concerned when a major employer announces job losses, but for Cllr Hadley and others to use this as an opportunity to make inaccurate, cheap political points is unhelpful and ultimately destructive.

Unemployment in Ledbury is 1.7 per cent. Amongt many things this is a testament to the hard working people of Ledbury, good local businesses, good education and decent local infrastructure.

Ledbury has a major link to the West Midlands and South Wales via the M50.

Ledbury has a bypass allowing industrial areas and protecting the town from heavy traffic.

Ledbury was one of the first areas in the county to benefit from major investment in superfast broadband.

Ledbury has a mainline train link. Bill Wiggin MP has invited Stephen Hammond MP, Under Secretary of State at Department for Transport, to Ledbury in May in order to further his campaign to improve rail services.

Heineken/UBL invested £110 million in 2008 and fruit milling is continuing in Ledbury.

The investment of £58 million in Hereford will further secure the cider industry within the county.

All these things support jobs and will continue to ensure that Ledbury has inward investment and remains resilient and vibrant.

Not everyone will agree with everything, but I think the past and current politicians have delivered for Ledbury. We should be proud to talk Ledbury up and not down.
