What on earth are Chester Draws?

First published in Letters

Chester Draws. I was amazed to find these things still around (Gazette small ads, April 4, under Bedrooms and Bedding).

They were a big favourite when I worked for the National Assistance Board in the Sixties, and I was never sure whether they were a storage unit or something you wore.

Given that Chester was a Roman garrison town I wonder quite how far back they date.

Should we be asking for European protection of the brand similar to the Melton Mowbray pork pie? Or was the writer looking for a simple “chest of drawers”?
