DURING a recent visit to Malvern I was greatly heartened to see Malvern Link railway station undergoing a number of improvements.

The railway has played a pivotal role in Malvern’s development over the years and it is vital that we cherish these important links with the rest of the country.

Great Malvern, Malvern Link and Colwall stations were also the point of departure for many who have gone off to serve their country. With 2014 being the centenary year of the outbreak of the First World War, I believe that one of Worcestershire’s loveliest towns should initiate a project to reinstate the clock that was once such a prominent and magnificent feature of Great Malvern Station’s roofline.

Such a restoration would serve as a fitting memorial to those who ventured forth never to return.

We have a duty to keep the memory of such sacrifice alive, while also teaching the young to honour the past without becoming slaves to it.
