HAVING been a keen supporter of Upton Jazz for nearly 20 years I feel I must register my disappointment and frustration at the exclusion from this year’s event of one of its main attractions, namely Dutch Jazz band Lamarotte.

While I accept that the festival is more than just one band, this one has been a mainstay for 17 years and, as a result, have many devoted fans here in the UK. Moreover they are the most approachable and caring 11 individuals you could wish to have on stage.

Their support and love of Upton Jazz has shone through all these years and to arbitrarily axe them in the name of ‘not allowing the jazz to become staid’ quite frankly beggars belief.

One wonders what the new organisers are thinking. I have to ask myself for whom exactly are they organising the jazz festival – certainly not for me or many of my friends.

The loss of Fish Meadow, along with the exclusion of traders was bad enough. It ripped the heart out of the jazz festival last year but now it appears that the major changes planned for this year will finish the job. Well done all!
