I AM delighted to hear (Reporter December 13) that Ledbury traders are going to make an effort to work together to raise the profile of Ledbury as a unique shopping destination.

Having worked on the Council for Protection of Rural England report on Food Webs around Ledbury, I discovered how challenging it is for small towns with independent shops to survive in these times.

Ledbury was highlighted in the report as one of the few market towns still thriving but it is essential that traders are not complacent.

Ledbury Food Group (a voluntary group established because of the CPRE report), champions local producers and town centre food outlets, without which footfall to other shops in Ledbury would diminish.

We are organising two events in 2014 – the Big Local Breakfast on January 31 and February 1, and the Poetry Festival Food and Drinks Fair on July 13.

One other thing, could Ledbury and Malvern town councils not co-ordinate town events so they do not clash – as they did for the Christmas lights?
