LAST week’s Ledbury Reporter (Dec 13) contained about article on Dog Hill Wood and a discussion at a recent town council meeting.

Dog Hill Wood is an important amenity to the town. It is one of the largest public areas in Ledbury and is regularly used by many people.

I cannot believe that Councillor Bradford has seriously suggested that the wood should be closed because of the cost of maintenance. Firstly, has he considered how the wood could be effectively closed to the public?

Secondly, does he think that if the wood is closed the trees will simply stop growing and the maintenance problem will go away?

If the maintenance is not done as and when required the problem will simply get worse with an increase in future costs. Also, how much of the budget for the wood has been spent on the unnecessary work alongside Upperfields road?

I hope Coun Eager is correct in his believe that Coun Bradford would be in a minority of one if he were to formally propose that the wood should be closed.
