REGARDING Sue Connett’s letter ‘Planning Fury’, she has put it in a nutshell. I have raged against every bit of small parcel of land being built on in Court Road to no avail.
The council-employed planners just see it as yet another house to be ticked off against the list of the number of houses they have to see built and they don’t care – nor do the councillors – about how this affects the local community.
I’ve spoken at a council planning meeting, and reading the agenda before I started I could see that I was bound to lose.
Building a house in the small side garden of a cottage, which leaves the cottage with no garden and the new house with no garden is perfectly acceptable to Malvern planners. This will probably be bought by a retired couple because it’s too expensive and too small for a young couple or even a single person. So is this what the housing shortage is all about, retirement homes?
My attendance at the planning meeting that approved this build proved to me how ill-informed, naive and out of touch our councillors are.
