FURTHER to the article written by Ian Craig in last Friday’s Gazette, I must register my disappointment at the total lack of any mention of Councillor Tony Warburton.

At the planning management committee meeting on Wednesday, December 4, he spoke very passionately in opposing both planning applications for development in his ward.

Sadly the Hope Pole Green application was passed, but without his help the Kiln Lane development would not have been refused.

At times it seemed that he alone was willing to speak out against the speculative planning applications that Malvern District Council is being bombarded with.

Sadly the district council’s inability to approve its fiveyear building land supply has left the town virtually powerless to defend itself and they seem unwilling to oppose any planning application that might end up in appeal, mainly on economic grounds.

As a resident of Leigh Sinton I would like to thank Councillor Warburton, Stephen Seymour, Barbara Davies and Les Williamson for their willingness to speak out. We have at least been given a chance to be heard.

Decisions are often made by people who have little or no local knowledge of the implications to the local population. This is not a simple case of NIMBYism; the village does not have the infrastructure to support development on such a scale.

This is why the contribution of people such as Coun Warburton, who truly represented his electorate and had the courage to stand up for his principles, is so important.

We need more people like him.
