Stand up for us

UNDERSTANDABLY, many people in Malvern want to keep the green land next to the Cube for community use rather than see it developed for housing.
Our district council agree and turned down the planning application by the landowner, Worcestershire County Council.
To a newcomer in the Malvern political scene, the actions of local Conservative county councillors that followed are shocking.
Last week, a motion to accept the district council’s decision and not appeal went before the county council. It was narrowly defeated. The three Malvern Conservative county councillors elected to represent Malvern did not support us. Their votes made the difference between a costly and unwanted appeal process and finding uses for the land that Malvern would support.
Coun Ian Hopwood abstained from the vote and broke his May election promise to “campaign for the retention of land surrounding the Cube both for the Cube and public amenity”.
Coun Lucy Hodgson who lives in Worcester but represents Malvern Chase Division is clearly out of touch. Meanwhile, Coun Paul Tuthill who represents Malvern Link and is also a Malvern Town councillor also voted against the motion.
Why aren’t Malvern’s councillors standing up for the people they were elected to represent?
