IT is gratifying to see that we can rely on your letters page to give us the result of local elections which might otherwise pass unnoticed.
I want to remind Martin Lawrence that he does have another option when completing his nomination form for the town council – he can leave the description blank.
Although a known Conservative, I accept his assertion that there should be no place for party politics in town or parish councils.
In the first elections to Malvern Town Council I left the description blank but the Liberals did not and they won most of the seats.
When the town council became financially and politically broken a few years later I joined the Malvern Town Action Group (MTAG) to reform it.
That was an independent group drawn from a wide political spectrum which I believe still exists.
A new council and a new clerk, who has proved himself a worthy administrator, turned around its fortunes.
Please let town councillors be elected on their individual commitments to Malvern and not on the basis of Westminster politics.
ROGER HALL-JONES Malvern
