I WAS among the audience at Christ Church, Malvern, on Friday for the latest concert by the English Symphony Orchestra, the highlight of which was a little known concertino by the Austrian composer, Hans Gal, superbly played by cellist Matthew Sharp.
Conductor Kenneth Woods deserves high praise for including this charming piece and also for his interesting preconcert talk and informative introductions to all the works played.
The orchestra were on top form for the other two items on the programme, both by Mendelssohn, and the informal atmosphere and good acoustics at Christ Church made for a most enjoyable evening.
