PE kit is pricey
1:53pm Friday 4th October 2013 in Letters
I AM fed up with the amount of money I am having to spend on my son’s school PE kit.
He is not a sports enthusiast, so he does not play for the school teams, so why must he possess a full rugby kit as well as a standard PE kit?
As many boys do, he has suddenly grown a considerable amount in a short space of time and needed all new kit for the start of the current academic year.
Polo shirt £15; rugby shirt £30; rugby boots, studs and mouthpiece £25; trainers £30; shorts £20; rugby socks £15. Total – £135.
This is considerably more than the cost of the entire achool uniform, which cost me £100 from the school shop and would have been about 25 per cent less if I’d found his size trousers and shirts in Matalan.
It is unreasonable for state schools to insist that all pupils possess a high standard of PE clothing, when all pupils are not required by state curriculae to achieve a high standard of sporting prowess.
