DEMOCRACY is alive and well in Malvern Hills District Council. Leader David Hughes has once again stated that his councillors have misunderstood what they were doing and need to have another attempt at getting the answer right.
At one of the most reasoned and democratic meetings I have been to, overview and scrutiny decided not to “approve”
the chief executive’s report into the future of the council but simply to note it for further investigation.
Councillor Hughes has delayed discussions into the report until a consensus of opinion has been reached.
Call me cynical but that sounds a lot like “we don’t like this decision let’s try again and approve it”.
The report includes privatising both the refuse yard and development control. If that were to happen the senior offices could potentially receive substantial redundancy packages.
But the council would have little left to democratically control.
What then would be the point in having 38 councillors to fund?
