WHATEVER one thinks of the tragic situation in Syria, it is gratifying to see that our MP Bill Wiggin shows independence of mind.
Of course, he is upset by the use of chemical weapons, but he does not believe that his constituents want to get involved in the use of cruise missiles against the Assad regime. Accordingly he did not support the coalition Government’s motion.
To my mind this was a courageous and independent action for which he should be applauded.
It is good to see MPs now examining carefully the grounds for war-like actions against other states, and they are unlikely to allow terrible mistakes such as the invasion of Iraq to occur again.
