I AWOKE a couple of weeks ago to find the shiny new refuse lorry broken down in my road again.
I seem to see a lot of them these days.
Piles of black and pink sacks were dotted about.
A short while later a single-backed lorry arrived and all pink and black sacks were thrown in together.
My horror at those carefully washed yogurt pots bound for landfill was great.
It then dawned on me that I had seen singlebacked refuse lorries and piles of pink/black sacks all over town.
I realised in despair that either all those pink sacks of recycling were headed for landfill or almost as bad two lorries were being sent round, so burning twice as much fuel, creating twice as much congestion and costing the tax payer twice as much to collect our rubbish.
I have asked for an explanation but so far no response.
I cannot wait to hear how this can be an economic, efficient and environmentally friendly way forward for our enterprising council.
I am also not sure whether to bother washing any more yogurt pots out.
