I AM appalled at the article in the Malvern Gazette concerning Pains Garage at Upton.
Mr Pain is a respected gentleman of our community who has run a business of excellence for many years. I found the article denigrating and abusive to the business of Mr Pain’s garage.
It seems Pains Garage is in no worse state of repair than anywhere else around Upton, the building appears structurally sound and in good order.
The premises and their appearance are consistent with others of similar function in sensitive locations up and down the UK; neat, tidy, safe, and functional.
The state of the paintwork is a matter of no importance whatsoever.
Pains Garage provides a excellent heavy recovery and lifting service to the wider community, the plant set out on the forecourt are consistent with this.
If the Upton local authority have wider designs on what is private property they should set these before the community in an open public statement of intention but I doubt that the public would support such aims.
Pains Garage is private property, it does not belong to the state or council.
The argument that the building is an important example of Art Deco is spurious – private property owners may like to note that just occupying a listed building increases cost, and allows people to interfere in your life and make demands on your time and resources.
I am sure voters will know how to deal with this issue at the next election; we need leaders who can embrace the whole community, not simpleminded followers.
