WHILST I have every sympathy for those who have lost a close relative, I consider this to be an over-reaction whilst emotions are raw.
The petition simply begs the negative and does not seek a balanced view.
I lived in Ronkswood, Worcester, for 25 years and have lived in Malvern for 25 years, enjoying many walks on the Malverns and through the Gullet.
This is a very tranquil spot enjoyed by thousands of walkers and visitors each year.
Please let us not lose sight of the fact that the people who tragically died ignored the warning signs.
People die on level crossings, at race track meetings and rivers etc.
where there are abundant warning signs.
We do not seek to close a level crossing or fill in a river because someone has died, however regrettable that may be.
Were we to raise a petition amongst the people of Malvern and those who walk the hills on a regular basis opposing the closure/filling in of the lake I have no doubt that there would be an equal number – if not more – in support.
