GRAHAM Brunswick (Letters, August 9) trots out two popular myths (often quoted by people who have never swum there) and seems intent with talk of “the predator”on demonising the Gullet.
The water is not extraordinarily cold (compared to larger, deeper bodies of water such as in the Lake District, it is relatively warm.) There is a current at the west end where water flows in but this is very weak . I made the point in my previous letter that all open water swimming is potentially hazardous but I do not believe that the Gullet presents any extremes provided that it is treated with respect.
