Protect our town

WE are very lucky to live in a beautiful, historic market town admired by residents and thousands of tourists alike.
Don’t destroy our infrastructure by allowing a monstrosity of a superstore to be built right in the middle of our town.
No supermarket chain would entertain the Lawnside Road area if it were not for Hereford Council planning officers insisting on this site for the sole purpose of selling off council property and putting the cash into their coffers.
The plan shown on the front of the Ledbury Reporter should not be viewed through rosecoloured spectacles.
The impact this proposal will have on all the roads from Lawnside to the bypass will be disastrous.
An estimate of some 25,000 cars a week plus dozens of 55 foot-long articulated lorries thundering along Lower Road and Bridge Street not to mention Worcester Road, The Southend, town centre and Bye Street – this is madness.
Are they proposing removing a footpath to widen some roads? Will they paint double yellow lines both sides of Bridge Street and Lower Road?
There was no mention of us losing Queens Walk Gardens, two coach stands and around 80 car park spaces in Bye Street and Lawnside Road.
There were worries the Sainsbury’s development on Lower Road Trading Estate would have a detrimental effect on the town centre. Believe you me, this proposal will devastate the town along with the town centre.
The Lawnside area sits inside a conservation area mainly residential and recreational. It should be protected from these predators.
