Plan takes time

LAST week’s edition of the Ledbury Reporter carried a letter expressing severe criticism o fthe work ofthe Steering Group responsible for preparing the up-dated Town Plan for Ledbury.

I believe this criticismto be unjustified.

Having workedon preparing the currentplan, I know only too well the precision with which it has to be formulated, the most time-consuming part of which is the preparation and subsequent analysis of the questionnaire to be circulated to every household, serviceprovider, business, trader, club and society.

Nothingmaybe included intheplan whichisnotthe outcome ofthis consultation.

Ms Baxter shouldbe aware thatthe current townplanstandsuntil supercededbythe one in preparationand, since adoptedbytownand County Councils, carries certainsafeguards concerningdevelopment.

Itis important to remember that members of the steering group are all volunteers showing, by their diligence, their committment to forming a plan relevant to the town's needs for the next five years.

I cannot believe that the issues addressed in the current plan and its successor will not alleviate fears about unsuitable development within the town. I would much prefer the team to take all the time itneeds to develop the replacement.

Mrs Winfield is quite right to say the effort up-front is significant on the Town Plan; and our Neighbourhood Plan is not allowed to develop in advance of the core strategy, because it must align with the county level policies.

This is why it is so important for us all to comment NOW on the core strategy plans for Ledbury. If our views are not listened to we will have the evidence to put our case to the planning inspector when the county plans are examined in public in the autumn.

A summary of the policies relating to the town and some of the key issues facing us in the County Council's Core Strategy consultation can be found on my Blog at http://councillorhar
